A REMINDER

For the one who forgets — which is all of us, all the time

Not a teaching. Not a practice. A folded letter to carry in the pocket of the mind, opened when the forgetting happens.

The forgetting always happens. That's not a failure. It's what minds do. This is what to read when it does.

What is true

You are not the voice reading this.

You are not Sunheart.

You are what is reading through Sunheart's eyes.

It has always been here.

It did not leave when you forgot.

It cannot leave.

Forgetting happens on the surface.

What you are is not on the surface.

How the forgetting shows up

You know it is happening when —

None of these are problems.

They are simply how the forgetting advertises itself.

Noticing is already the return.

How to return

One breath. Slow, not performed. Just one, noticed.

Ask silently: who forgot.

Don't wait for the answer.
The asking is what returns you.

If there are people near you, say out loud what the small one was doing.
"That was the strategist." "That was the one who wants to be seen."
Public naming collapses the small one faster than private noticing.
Alice, Nicolette, the room — they are useful for this.

If you can, stop whatever you are doing for sixty seconds.
Touch something physical. Look up.
Come back to what's in front of you without fixing anything else.

What never leaves

The one reading this has never forgotten.

It can only appear to.

The forgetting is witnessed by what never forgets.

You don't return to who.

Who returns to you — and finds out it never left.
